SAFEGUARDING THE URBAN MURALS: CLEANING AND PROTECTION (SOS-MURALS)
SOS- MURALS is a research project on the knowledge of the conservation strategies (cleaning and protection) of urban murals.
Paints with different compositions (PVA and alkyd binders) on supports commonly found in Galicia will be exposed to three different interventions: cleaning, antigraffiti protection and solar radiation protection.
Milestones
To advance in the knowledge of the chemical cleaning using low toxic solvent ternary mixtures of vandalism paintings on urban mural.

To advance in the knowledge of the protection on urban murals to allow establishment of conservation guidelines for a preventive conservation of this street art expression.

A real artwork exposed to an urban environment will be evaluated to transfer knowledge from the laboratory to the society and companies related with the conservation and restoration field.
